We are bringing awareness to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, while also providing Solutions that contribute to Success for individuals with FASD.  You may have stumbled upon one or more of these Successful Strategies in your personal life.  You may have found assistance with an outside resource.

Our community needs to hear what has worked for others, and that’s where you come in. We want to help you share your story. Your Success deserves to be acknowledged.

Teresa – Grateful for a real life Wonder Woman

“Our son was living with a foster family on a cattle ranch, learning farming and ranching skills.  The foster mother suggested he take a 52 hour class to become a Certified Nursing Assistant as an employment opportunity.  Fortunately, the foster mom had taken the class herself and worked as a CNA in the past.  This allowed her to tutor him after each class session.  He passed the class with room to spare and  began working as a CNA in a local nursing home.  He did well and liked the job.

After a year of working he wanted to take the course to become a Medication Aide.  This course would allow him to administer medications in the nursing home and put $2 an hour on his pay scale.  It was a 49 hour course and was followed by a state exam.  His mother decided to take the course with him.  As a registered nurse she already  knew the material.  Taking the class together served two purposes.  One, she drove them to the class, as he had no other way to get there.  Two,  they were able to review the material together and study for the tests together.  He scored 88% on the final exam!”
